OFFICE 145
TRADE FAIR COMPLEX – Ghent
Several interventions are proposed within the masterplan of Flanders Expo, a complex of multipurpose exhibition halls on the periphery of Ghent. A new Hall No 10 is designed to mirror the existing Hall No 3, and the road between the two is transformed into a glass-covered passageway that connects all remaining halls at the rear. Sheets of undulated and corrugated steel are placed in front of the original facades. The resulting in-between space houses auxiliary functions such as toilets and a bar, while technical elements, including gutters and the roof structure, are integrated in the depth of the corrugated sheets. A continuous tarmac floor extends from the interior to the perimeter of the complex and is colour-coded to match the painted sides of the sheet steel.
