OFFICE 182
OPENAIR HOUSE – Overijse
This small house sits in the axis of a deep narrow lot, surrounded by agricultural compounds and a scattering of other houses. Its rectangular plan is divided into three equal rooms, with the middle room further subdivided to form a central triangular service core with a kitchen, toilet and storage. On the mezzanine level, flanked by two spiral stairs, this triangular space encloses a bathroom at the centre of three bedrooms. A substitute for a typical gable roof, the shed roof is mirrored by a light canopy supported by thin steel columns. The open steel structural envelope incorporates portions of the interior and the void of the garden in equal measure. A sliding gate, when shut, completes the front facade.
