OFFICE 275
ART ROOM – Brussels
This large room is dedicated to a single function – enjoying and sharing a private collection of art. Inserted into the steep slope of the garden of a Brussels villa, the room connects the two different levels on each side of the building: the street level and the garden level below. On the higher level, the sliding glass panel door opens to a spiral metal staircase. Below, another wide sliding glass door gives way to a roofed terrace overlooking the vast garden. The art room is connected to the adjacent house by means of a backroom that accommodates storage and technical space. A reflective inclined roof features a curved gutter and a corner cut-out in front of a large tree. The juxtaposition of the inclined roof and the simple concrete box inserted into the slope creates a gap between the two, allowing for north-facing skylights that provide the best conditions for taking in natural light.
