ART FAIR (LISTE) – Basel
Liste Art Fair, a satellite of Art Basel, moved from its original location at the former Warteck Brewery to the Messe Basel exhibition centre. The temporary installation for the annual event had the remit of establishing a recognisable place in its new setting of large exhibition halls. A ring structure made of radial walls is stiffened at the top by diagonal beams that form a crown-like frame. The distribution of exhibition stands along the inner and outer sides of the ring structure is occasionally interrupted to enable access to the surrounding services and social spaces, as well as the central ‘sculpture piazza’ where large-format artworks are placed. Evoking an enclosed public square, this central space symbolically conveys the idea of a fair as a place of exchange where people come together. Apart from the gallery stands, the programme called for a welcome desk, bar, café and billboard. The entire timber structure, made to be reassembled and reused, was used for four editions of Liste from 2021 to 2024.
