AWC 23 – TROUBLE WITH CLASSICISTS
In the first semester we made a catalogue of what we considered 'the commons'. The catalogue is vast and monumental, but would quickly lose relevance if not translated into a set of 'real' projects in this world, in the reality as found. Therefore, in the second semester we chose as the case study a particular part of the Even Covered Field in Italy: the metropolitan area around Florence, Pistoia and Prato. The choice of the site was by no means accidental. It is in Florence that we first find buildings with the ambiguous desire to be at once representational outposts of a newly built city, as well as points of reference and dominion within the landscape.
