AWC 27 – CONVENTIONAL WISDOM
The 27th incarnation of Architecture Without Content, radically reconsiders the role of "ancestors" as a body of architectural knowledge which prefigured in previous iterations. At a time in which historical references have once more become fashionable in architectural education, something for which AWC is also to be blamed, we wondered if it was possible to activate the past without the now, rather obvious, activity of transplanting references? This studio stays contemporary to its examples. Conventional Wisdom focuses on the emergence of the architectural practice in the 1500s. As a specific case, we choose probably the most opaque and grand of them all:"the Sangallo office" ran by different members of the Sangallo family over a period of more than fifty years from two different cities in Italy, Florence and Rome.
